At Sharon Trees Wedding Photography, we love capturing real love stories—especially ones that begin with a swipe and end with forever. Megan and Phil’s wedding was a heartfelt, relaxed day full of personality, emotion, and thoughtful tributes. From a Tinder meet-cute to a Yorkshire venue with family ties, their day was truly unforgettable.
How They Met: A Tinder Match with a Twist
Like many modern couples, Megan and Phil first met on Tinder. Megan had just come home from her first year at university and downloaded the app more for fun than for romance—especially because her mum, Donna, liked swiping through profiles! One day, Phil sent a Super Like, and Donna noticed he had, in her words, a “nice bum.” She swiped right, and it was a match!
Megan wasn’t sure at first, but something about Phil stood out, so she replied to his message. After chatting nonstop, Phil invited her for ice cream, earning him the nickname "the ice cream man" from Megan's grandad. What started as a summer fling quickly became something more. Despite the distance—Megan in Bristol and Phil in Sheffield—they couldn’t stop talking. By Christmas, they were officially a couple. Seven years later, they’re still going strong.
The Proposal: From a Kebab to Candlelight
Phil’s first proposal was impromptu—on a hill in Bristol, slightly tipsy, with a kebab in one hand and Megan’s ring in the other. She said yes… on one condition: he’d need to propose for real someday.
Three years later, Phil bought a ring and planned a romantic dinner, but Megan wasn’t feeling well and asked to stay in. With a little improvisation, he cooked an Italian meal at home, lit candles, and played a special song. After giving a heartfelt speech, he officially asked Megan to marry him. She said yes again—and they spent the night celebrating with food, wine, and family phone calls.
Choosing the Perfect Wedding Venue
Although they live in London, Megan and Phil knew they wanted a Yorkshire wedding close to their families. With Megan in medical school, they also needed a wedding venue that offered a full package to keep planning stress-free. Megan’s mum, Donna, toured Hellaby Hall on their behalf and instantly fell in love with it. She called them right after the visit and said, “You need to book this now!” They paid the deposit that very day.
The Wedding Style: Relaxed, Joyful, and Family-Focused
The couple envisioned a laid-back wedding day with no pressure, no strict traditions—just genuine celebration with loved ones. Their vibe was fun, authentic, and deeply personal.
Special Touches
Megan had always imagined her grandad walking her down the aisle. After his passing in 2020, her Nana offered to take his place. Sadly, she too passed away in 2023. To honour them, Megan will walk down the aisle wearing their photos around her wrist—so they can still be part of the moment.
They’ve also made a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society in her Nana’s memory and included Alzheimer’s pins as meaningful wedding favours for guests.
What They’re Most Excited For
Phil: “The food! (Oh—and marrying Megan too!)”
Megan: “Celebrating with everyone before they return to different corners of the country. And yes—marrying Phil!”
