Every wedding has a story, and Richard and Kelly’s journey is a perfect example of how love can blossom in the most unexpected places. Their romantic proposal, heartfelt vows, and relaxed twilight wedding at The Old Rectory in Handsworth, Sheffield are sure to inspire couples planning their own special day.

How Did You Meet?

Like many modern love stories, theirs began online – but not on a dating app. Richard and Kelly first connected on Twitter, bonding instantly over their shared love of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club. A casual chat about a trip to Liverpool soon turned into a friendship, which naturally grew into something more.

“We were friends first,” Kelly recalls, “but then we became a couple. It all just felt right.”

The Proposal

After over a year of friendship and just three months of officially dating, Richard knew he had found the one. In January 2023, he proposed at home – a beautifully simple and intimate moment that perfectly reflected their relationship.

“It shocked everyone,” laughs Kelly. “But in the words of our favourite show, Gavin & Stacey… when you know, you know.”

Why The Old Rectory, Handsworth, Sheffield?

Finding the perfect wedding venue can feel overwhelming, but for Richard and Kelly, it was love at first sight when they visited The Old Rectory Handsworth in Sheffield.

“We just fell in love with it straight away,” Kelly says. “I could instantly picture myself walking down the stairs to meet my dad. It gave us that feeling.”

With its character, charm, and warm atmosphere, The Old Rectory was the perfect backdrop for their relaxed wedding celebration.

Wedding Style & Theme

Richard and Kelly are keeping their big day heartfelt and natural with a romantic twilight wedding.

“No theme, no fuss – just lots of love,” they explain.

A personal touch they’re especially proud of? Including a bridesman – their best friend – in the bridal party. A wonderful way to celebrate the people who matter most.

What They’re Most Excited About

When asked what they’re looking forward to most, the answer was simple yet perfect:

“Marrying my best friend in front of everyone we love.”

Wedding Planning Advice for Other Couples

With social media filled with picture-perfect weddings, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But Richard and Kelly have some wise words for future brides and grooms:

“Don’t stress about pleasing everyone else – plan the wedding for you two. It doesn’t have to be extravagant to be beautiful. Focus on what makes you happy, not what you see online.”

Choosing Their Wedding Photographer

Capturing the love and joy of the day was incredibly important, and the choice of photographer was easy.

“You photographed my best friends’ wedding, and you were both so lovely and professional. I wouldn’t want anyone else to capture our special day. The photos you took of Ian & Nick’s wedding were stunning.”

A love story that started with football tweets, grew into friendship, and turned into a forever promise – Richard and Kelly’s twilight wedding at The Old Rectory Handsworth, Sheffield is proof that sometimes, when you know, you just know.
