One of my favourite photos ever to capture is that confetti shot on your wedding day.

The fun, crazy and happy moment it creates is amazing to photograph but also needs a little preparation to be EPIC!

So, I’ve put together some of my top tips and hope it inspires you to get excited for your own confetti madness!

GET LOTS AND LOTS OF IT!

Out of all the wedding confetti top tips, if there’s just one thing you take from it all – let it be this!

A little handful for each guest really isn’t enough! If you want those crazy and epic photos where you’re basically engulfed in a cloud of confetti amazingness, ensure each guest has loads! Basically you need enough so you can no longer see where you’re going… ok?

USE CONFETTI CANNONS

They are pricey to buy but so worth it. I would suggest handfuls of confetti for most and then having a few large confetti cannons dotted throughout the line of guests will definitely ensure those confetti wedding photos are kickass! Guests reactions when they go off, they go with a bit of a pop! ensures that you get great reactions.

BE ECO FRIENDLY BIODEGRADABLE CONFETTI

Biodegradable confetti is great for being used outside. However, its definitely more expensive than regular confetti and not readily available in super bright colours. It is of course much kinder to the environment and some venues prefer you to use only this. It’s really important to always get double the amount you think you will need to show well on your photographs!

GET RID OF THE CONFETTI CONES AND BAGS

When you begin looking for wedding confetti you’ll discover a lot of options online in terms of cardboard cones and paper bags to essentially hold your confetti . Although it keeps it all together they are are totally unnecessary!

Just grab a large basket/container and have guests grab handfuls from it, ensuring everyone gets plenty to throw. The problem with confetti cones is that rather than tipping the confetti from the cone into their hands, guests use the cones to launch the confetti into the air which means not only does the confetti not fall very well but also you run the risk of most of your photos having all of these paper triangles/bags blocking the faces of your loved ones.

ADVISE GUESTS TO THROW THE CONFETTI UP… NOT AT YOU

Your guests will (understandably) find the idea of throwing confetti right at your face hilarious. It’s not! And, you run a huge risk of you pulling strange faces on every single photo.

What you really what you is for them to throw it high above you as you walk past so that it falls nicely. On the day, you don’t need to worry about telling your guests how to throw your confetti, I’ll tell them how before we start

SMILE AND FACE FORWARD

Getting covered with confetti is an crazy experience and certainly not something you do every day so it’s understandable to look down and try to shelter your face. Really you want to keep your face up, smile and enjoy every moment.  If you are pulling strange faces or looking down the whole time that’s all I’m going to be able to capture. Try your hardest to love every minute and laugh at the chaos of it all. Smile at your partner, laugh with your guests, stop for a kiss and a hug halfway. I will give you a gentle reminder before we start to do this.

I want to see all of your happiness embrace the moment! You will only do it once in your life!

CONFETTI AISLE EXIT

One fun option is to have someone hand out the confetti whilst you’re signing the register and get everyone ready to throw the confetti/pop those cannons as you walk back down the aisle. This way no one has to worry about getting everyone into place again later on and it’s the perfect way to celebrate as you’ve literally just tied-the-knot. You’ll be on cloud nine at this time! This works well for outdoor ceremonies or venues with a wide aisle.

PIMP UP YOUR FIRST DANCE

Confetti is perfect for a first dance!

Allocate some confetti cannons to certain guests and get them to pop them just as chorus starts on your first dance song – your guests will SCREAM with excitement (especially if you haven’t told anyone else that it’s gonna happen) and will make for some really amazing photos.

ENJOY IT!

The final one of my wedding confetti tips is to enjoy it! This part of the day is over so quickly. Once the first hand goes in the air ready to throw, it’ll last no more than 20 seconds before you’ve reached the end so take your time and rock the moment and...

ENJOY IT!

YOU’VE DREAMED OF THIS MOMENT FORVER!
